Clear Braces

. . . a simple and effective way to straighten crowded misaligned teeth without causing
any damage or harm. They are wafer thin, virtually invisible and
most people will have no idea you are wearing them!
Clear braces involve a wearing a series of clear aligners.  Each one is worn for two weeks before progressing to the next one, gently moving the teeth as you go.

Traditional braces involve attaching metal brackets to the front of the teeth and linking them together with a wire. These are called fixed braces, commonly known as ‘train tracks’. Understandably, some adults are not keen to wear highly visible fixed braces, especially as orthodontic treatment can last up to two years.

To find out which is suitable for you, feel free to contact us for a Free Initial Discussion to explore the possibilities.

FAQ's

How does it work?

At the first appointment we will examine your teeth to see if aligners are suitable and discuss alternative options, enabling you to make an informed decision. If you wish to investigate the possibility further, an impression is then taken of your teeth and sent to a specialist dental laboratory. After detailed measurements, a computer simulation is generated to see what result is achievable. At this stage we can predict how long the treatment is likely to take.

How long will it take?

The majority of patients complete their treatment between six months and one year. Simple cases can take less and complex cases may take longer.

Am I too old?

No! Braces are often associated with children, however teeth can be moved at any age. We commonly provide Clear Aligner Treatment over a wide age range, including patients in their 70's.  Clear Aligners can often be a simple and highly effective treatment for senior patients who have put up with crowded teeth all their life, because they have never been given the option.

Will it hurt?

No, most people experience minimal discomfort because the teeth are being moved gently and gradually. You should only experience some tightness when you change to the next aligner in the series.

Does it work for all crowded teeth?

Clear Aligners are ideal for mild and moderately crowded teeth. For patients with severe crowding requiring extractions to create space, fixed traditional braces may be more appropriate. Fixed braces are only provided by specialist orthodontists and if required we can refer patients for treatment.

How long will the result last?

Teeth will naturally want to return to their original crowded position, so once the teeth have been straightened, retainers need to be worn long term. This applies to all cases, Clear Aligners or fixed braces. Retainers can either be removable and worn only overnight, or a thin wire bonded invisibly to the back of the teeth.
